I am the proud owner of a new fireglow 330, I bought it because I have
always wanted one since I was a kid back in the 60s, beautiful guitar But I
hate the action on it. The neck and fret board are so glossy with lacquer
that when my hands perspire the least little bit they stick to and hang up
on the neck and fretboard, it is hard to bends or slides of any kind. I do
not have the same problem with my Maple fretboard Fenders. I petty much only
play the ric for rhythm guitar parts.

Does anyone know of a good solution to this problem, I have tried fret ease
and other sprays, talc powder but nothing seems to work, I have heard that
some guitar techs will actually take steel wool to the necks of
Rickenbackers to make them more playable. does anyone have any experience
with steel wool on Rics?

Does anyone know of a good solution to this problem,
Sell it and buy 3 Fenders with the proceeds.

Go over it with some very fine steel wool. Tape off the pickups so that
little pieces of the wool dont get stuck to the magnets.

Get some finishing compound from Stewmac. It seems to "firm up"
finishes for me. You can also use it to take out those little scratches
and swirls that accumulate over the years...

Or Meguiar's glaze polish from the auto parts store. Same thing,
really.

HTH,

Don't know about lacquer on neck, but on body it seems to reduce
projection. I had my 2nd hand guitar stripped of excessive lacquer
and refinished.
I am very pleased with the results.
