Interesting article this month about Petty. I had no idea that he
started as a bass player! He has hundreds of guitars but believes in
playing them all, which is a beautiful thing.

He's a real rock and roller who's managed to hang in. Bully for him!

Yes, indeed. The first time I saw him on TV, he was playing bass for
Dwight Twilley, and they had an appearance on a great Saturday comedy
show called WHACK-O! I kept wondering about the bass player, because he
just 'looked' like he was going somewhere.

Usually, the show would rotate the Spinners with Dwight Twilley and
someone else each week. Really funny skits on different levels, for a
kids show, and I've yet to see another show that comes close to what they
did. I wish someone would release the old shows.

The show featured Julie McWhirter (now married to Rick Dees), Charles
Fleischer, and Bo Kaprall. Pure genius! First time I'd seen any of
them.

There's a video floating around YouTube land , Tom is playing bass
for Ringo (who is covering the Beatles "I Call Your Name". Jeff Lynne
is playing some electric 12 string, not sure of the make.
