My first post to the group ...

Back in '99 I read this newsgroup for a while before
I bought my first RIC and thought it was 'specially
cool that John Hall was posting here. Sorry that
he decided that it was not worth ignoring the idiots.
I hope he is still lurking and that he doesn't
give up forever on the group.

On Friday I received by third and best RIC,
a 660/12 Mapleglo, which I reserved from Mike Parks
15 months ago. There was a discussion of the long
wait time for RIC's last month so I though I would
chime in with my thoughts:

1. John Hall and I are the same age, and a lot
of RIC customers are gray-hairs like us. I like
his approach to running his business. He could
increase production by reducing quality but he doesn't.
He could deal with the supply/demand imbalance by
raising prices to soak us but he doesn't.
In my opinion, we wait a while for a great value,
(a premium price but a superb product) which
I am happy to buy into.

2. There's a benefit to the limited supply of
new RIC's for us buyers, which is that it creates
a strong demand for used RIC's. The impatient buyers
will grab our purchases on ebay or wherever if we
decide that we want to sell our RIC's, and we'll
get pretty close to what we paid. So, in effect,
we're renting our RIC's and can exchange them whenever
we want.

Jack

In some cases, you can get far more for a used RIC than originally paid
for as well. This is true for all the sig series, and some of the rare
units, like the 4004CII5. As I understand it, not very many were
produced, and are getting 30% more than MSRP now. A discontinued item
also will appreciate very fast.

John Hall is a shrewd business man, although a little thin skinned IMO.

Idiots? If somebody has a beef about a product that they paid allot of
money for does that make them an idiot? Who are you Jack ? John Hall
or just a brown nosing buddy of his? You hope he doesnt give up on
the group forever?
Pa lee az. Sounds like you wanna be his asshole buddy. I dont know if
it was John Hall or his old man ( probably SR. )but during the 60's
when Lennon and Harrison were bringing Rickenbacker back into the
spotlight they asked P. McCartney if he would like a bass. He said
yes so they took one to him.( right handed). Then they wanted to
charge him for it. He wouldnt accept it under those conditions. He
ended up using one from time to time later. What is it in the case of
the Halls. Greed ,stupidity or both ?

My "idiot" comment was not directed at anyone in particular,
but thank you for illustrating my point.
