If somebody here doesn't stop me, I'm going to put a pair of Toasters on a
Danelectro DC-59.

So try and stop me. I dare you. Who's got the balls?

I mean it....I'll DO IT......

if you want to burn a load of money away then go ahead.

Rics - still in production

Danelectro - classic guitars no longer made

get where I'm headed? Values are going up all the time and before long
they'll way outclass Rics in resale value as they just get rarer and
rarer

I've been looking for one and it's almost impossible. For every 50 Rics
on EBay there might be one Danelectro

Not that I think you would contemplate doing it anyway :)

(BTW I mean a DC12, one of the old models. I've heard bad things about
the reissues, and old ones are like gold dust)

That's what I have, a reissue. I sold off a 60's Rick, replaced it with a Carvin
Electric-acoustic. but I'm going to miss the Rick sound. The Dano is far too
clangy & brittle-sounding to make a usable 12-string. Sooooo....I noticed that:

1. Toasters, at least the neck toaster on the old Rick was 9/16" thick - which
happens to be the exact string-to-body height of the Dano at the pickups. Some
shimming of the neck & bridge and - there you have it.

2. The Dano's pickup cutouts are ALMOST the same size as a Strat pup cover
including base - probably a hair smaller. A little filing and I'm there, barring
surprises in the body. And Strat pups, I already have. Might be a good use for
the Lace Golds in the junkbox.

The reissues are holding their price, more or less. Nothing I'd consider
"precious".

But he's got a point, the Danoes could become very valuable in the not so
distant future. I myself bought a Dano baritone a couple of years ago with
the same thing in mind (well I did need it for a project at that point).
Although Jerry Jones makes a great version of it, the Dano is the original
and could get the vintage stamp at some point which could make them go from
3-400 dollars (I paid 350, I don't know what they are now) to a lot more.
Ask anybody about Fenders/Gibsons reputation in the 70s (bad, bad, bad) and
still they are becoming very much in demand now. I bought a 77 tele 10 years
ago for 400 dollars (I live in Denmark so it's actually 3500 kroner). 2
months ago I was offered 4,5 times that amount just because it's old. It's a
pretty good guitar but I don't think quality has a lot to do with the whole
vintage thing.

"Beefed" Lipsicks, eh? Maybe I should look into those instead of Toasters.

No, but that's how Chapman explained it.

I thought Lennon already had toasters on his guitar.
