The frets markers on my '73 4001 are the same width as the neck -
the mother of pearl triangle goes from one side to the other with no
wood showing on the sides.

Here's a '73 4001 with fret markers that are less than the width of the
fret (like my '07 4003).

Question: Did Rickenbacker have 2 different types of fret markers in
the same manufacturing year? I know alot changed between the 73s and
the 74s, but in the same year? TIA

Apparently they did. I've had Rics since '78 and have never seen this style
of markers (from the Ebay ad). Note they are also rounded at the ends.
New to me, but the bass looks authentic. Perhaps a fingerboard replacement
from another luthier?
